The Pecan Grove Volunteer Fire Department (PGVFD) has been servicing the community for 25 years, providing your family, home and community with fire protection services, medical first response, community safety awareness programs and the only community room.
To remedy a serious problem with the current location of PGVFD on Pitts Road. (The current location of the fire station is outside of our protective levee system and could be left under water if a Katrina/Rita incident was to occur.) and
To maintain independence in the future in providing priority fire protection and emergency services to the Pecan Grove community and
To replace the current Community Room in the present PGVFD fire station and
To improve the infrastructure of our neighborhood to maintain and grow the value of our homes, especially in light of the new developments all around us.
The proposed site of the P.G. C.S.C. is in the underveloped park at 2100 Plantation Dr. (across from the bulletin board). This location is inside the protected levee zone.
The undeveloped park consists of 5 acres of which an estimated 3 acres would be needed for the PGCSC. The PGCSC would be situated on the site to limit operational distractions to the neighboring homeowners. The exterior of the PGCSC would blend with the neighborhood and would be a source of pride to our community. Additionally the remaining 2 acres would be available for park development for the use of the community.
The cost of the Pecan Grove Community Safety Center would be minimal compared to other M.U.D. expenses.
The PGCSC would centralize the housing of several community entities: the PGVFD fire station, a Sheriff’s Office Store Front (proposed & non-existent currently), P. G. M.U.D. offices, various homeowner association offices and a new community meeting room. This centralization would add increased security and prestige to our community.
This location for the PGVFD new fire station would improve response time for the majority of our homeowners ---- that could mean saving a life or a home!
The Pecan Grove Volunteer Fire Department would offer to trade its existing land on Pitts Road, fire station and rights to its water main (needed for the park) to the M.U.D. in exchange for the proposed PGCSC building of this quality (as shown in the picture) at the proposed site to house the fire department. Rent for the fire department and homeowners associations would be a dollar a year for 100 years. The present fire station could then be used by the M.U.D. to house repair crews and equipment or be transformed into additional park facilities.
